Veganism can be an intimidating topic -- there’s no denying it. While many of us dream of becoming plant-based for various reasons, such as being more climate-friendly, it can be hard to take the first few steps to live this lifestyle.
When our founder, Julia Collins, became a mom, she felt a pressing need to tackle climate change and follow a plant-based lifestyle. She created Moonshot as a way to play her part in preserving Mother Earth so that us humans can continue living comfortably.
(Shhh 🤫… we also created Moonshot because we love to snack…)
Our passion for food motivated us to be more conscious of what we eat because it has such a large impact on the planet we all call home.
Finding plant-based snacks that are healthy and satisfy our cravings can be difficult – up until now.
Moonshot is proud to offer multiple healthy vegan snacks, and we are here to also share all of our insider tips with you about how to make snacking even more fun than when you were a kid and your parents packed your favorite snack in your lunch box.
Hummus and Crackers
Hummus and crackers are a great way to keep snacking simple. Hummus on its own has numerous health benefits. The creamy spread supports blood sugar control, digestive health and helps fight inflammation. It’s also jam-packed with vitamins and minerals that your body will love.
Paired with the right cracker, hummus can turn into an explosion of flavors that will keep your taste buds, stomach, mind, and body happy and healthy. The right crackers, such as our variety pack of climate-friendly crackers, are great for pairing. Light and crispy crackers with creamy hummus are a crazy delicious combo, and it would be hard to convince anyone otherwise. Plus, there are countless varieties of hummus and crackers, so you’ll never get bored of this classic vegan snack combination.
Moonshot’s Rosemary Garlic Crackers
Our Rosemary Garlic Crackers are the perfect place to start. We are absolutely obsessed with the crunch and herby flavor that these crackers deliver.
The sunflower oil in the crackers is pressed from flowers grown on regenerative farms in Colorado. These farms practice regenerative agriculture, a method of farming that prioritizes healthy soil and sequesters carbon. What’s really amazing about regenerative agriculture is that it actually improves the land!
Sunflower oil is also rich in the good kind of fats (monounsaturated) and is high oleic. We thoughtfully source our ingredients from climate-friendly farmers to ensure that we can all confidently enjoy our snack time -- guilt-free.
We all want to make the most of snack time. For this reason, we’ve thought of two great hummus varieties to pair with our Rosemary Garlic Crackers that we can all enjoy together and feel good about while snacking! From scoops of red pepper hummus to guiltless spoonfuls of garlic hummus, there is a wide selection of pairings that will exceed the expectations of your taste buds.
Red Pepper Hummus
For Climatarian snackers, flavor lovers, and vegans alike, red pepper hummus pairs perfectly with our Rosemary Garlic Crackers.
Red pepper hummus is a great source of protein for everyone, especially those interested in healthy vegan snacks. A popular hit appetizer at parties, red pepper hummus paired with our Rosemary Garlic Crackers is a perfect recipe for simple success. Plus, the bright red color gives your snack spread a bit of extra pizzazz.
For our snacking champions and garlic lovers, pairing our Rosemary Garlic Crackers with garlic hummus is the perfect, ultimate healthy vegan snack. For a more mellow flavor, try buying or making roasted garlic hummus, and for a punchier flavor, try stirring in fresh minced garlic into your hummus!
Garlic hummus is also super nutritious and packed with plant-based protein. Hummus fights inflammation, promotes digestive and immune function, and a bundle of other great health benefits. And just like regular hummus, garlic hummus promotes digestive health as it is an excellent source of dietary fiber.
Vegan Charcuterie Board
Another fabulous healthy vegan snack idea that we all love is a good charcuterie board. Sometimes charcuterie refers to cold meats, but we like to think of charcuterie boards as a delicious, bountiful snacking spread. And yes, you can make these be both vegan and aesthetically pleasing! Here’s what we love to put in our vegan charcuterie boards:
Moonshot’s Sourdough Sea Salt Crackers
Our Sourdough Sea Salt Crackers are the perfect addition to your vegan charcuterie board. Made with naturally fermented sourdough, these crackers will satisfy any crunchy craving you may have. We swear by these climate-friendly crackers that are USDA Organic, carbon neutral, and made with regeneratively grown wheat!
Similar to our Rosemary Garlic Crackers, there are endless pairings for these Sourdough Sea Salt Crackers - and we can’t wait to dive in. These crackers are also a larger size which is great for entertaining or if you just want a little bit more to yourself.
Fruit is the ultimate addition to a vegan charcuterie board. It’s natural sweetness complements the sea salt on Moonshot crackers. We like to include fresh fruits like berries when they’re in-season and dried fruit or fruit jams in the winter, when many fruits are flown in. Fruits provide a fun pop of color and contrasting textures to your snack spread.
Whether it is fresh fruit, dried fruit, or a fruit spread, they provide an enormous list of health benefits that all of our bodies will thank us for later. Apples, for example, are a quick and easy addition to your board that are high in fiber and boost heart health. On the other hand, cherries are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds and may support sleep quality.
We are absolutely nuts for nuts! They’re another great addition to your charcuterie board that are tasty, convenient, and vegan. Cashews, walnuts, pistachios, and pecans are a great way to add a rich, umami flavor to your snack game. They add a bit of crunch, earthy colors, and fun textures too! Nuts are a great source of protein, fiber and healthy fats! Healthy and delicious makes the combination hard to beat.
Plant-Based Cheeses and Dips
Sometimes we all want to SPREAD a bit of extra love– this is where plant-based cheeses and dips/spreads come into play.
There are numerous vegan cheeses out there for us all to enjoy! These plant-based cheeses can be the centerpiece of your snack board - start by placing these down first and then fill in your board with other goodies.
Our crackers are also sturdy enough to stand up to plant-based dips! Guacamole, salsa, spinach dip – similar to plant-based cheeses, the options available are endless. We like to put dips in cute bowls on our vegan charcuterie boards and pile nuts and fruits around it. They can also be put to the side if you don’t have any room left on your snack board!
The final addition to your vegan charcuterie board with Sourdough Sea Salt Crackers is marinated veggies. You can add freshly grilled mushrooms and peppers, go for Italian marinated artichokes, or even quick pickle cauliflower to add to your board.
Like fruit, vegetables add color to your snacking feast and supply a heap of health benefits too! Vegetables are a great source of antioxidants and fiber, and research has shown that if you eat vegetables everyday you have a lower risk of getting certain diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
Let’s end this article with the king of all snacks - guacamole! Avocados are heart-healthy, high in healthy monounsaturated fats, and provide us with gut-friendly fiber. Chunky, smooth, spicy, lemony, any way you like it, we love it! Try adding tomatoes, red onions, cilantro, garlic, or citrus to your own guac rendition. It’s so fun and easy to make!
Moonshot’s Tomato Basil Crackers
Hip hip hooray for our climate-friendly Tomato Basil Crackers as they are the ultimate pairing with guacamole. Our crackers have a robust flavor, made from the freshest ingredients. Organic and non-GMO ingredients mean that these crackers' ingredients are clean and traceable, making them simple and delicious.
Simple Guacamole Ingredients
What better way to elevate our savory delicious Tomato Basil Crackers than to make simple guacamole!
- 1 Fresh lime
- Generous pinch of salt
- 1 clove of garlic (minced)
- 2 avocados
- Diced tomatoes
- Diced Onion
- Hot sauce or tabasco sauce
Slice the avocado, remove the pit, and scoop the contents into a bowl. Mash the avocado until they reach the consistency that you like. Some people like guacamole smooth; others like it chunky. Both are deliciously good!
Add the garlic and salt and any other additional ingredients that you have on hand. Mash all ingredients together and enjoy.
Have fun with it! Healthy vegan snacks don’t need to be boring; we all deserve better. Now that we’ve shown you how easy the first few steps of being vegan can be, we hope you can make a small change for your health and the planet we share.
